If he fights Sidious right off the bat he loses, hard. Vader's approach for combat is why he lost to Kenobi who admitted Anakin was a better duelist than him. His big mistake was just trying to brute force Obi-Wan to death which is terrible because Form 3 is specifically designed to make that kind of tactic useless. And since Sidious is an even better duelist than Obi-Wan, he'd get wrecked hard. Once you factor in force abilities, it's no contest. Anakin might have more raw power in the force, but power is useless when your opponent has ways of nullifying or working around it. Now if Vader chilled the f*** out and reinvented himself like he did after getting the suit, incorporating more lightsaber forms into his combat and spent a few years training to improve his force abilities, he'd beat Sidious. |

Honestly I think he has a better chance post mustafar. His dueling and abilities overall became much greater and more effective as a result. To the point where I'm pretty sure Darth Vader could fight and defeat Yoda as he was against Sidious. Anakin as he was against Obi-wan though? Sidious should take him pretty well considering he put up a good fight against Mace Windu, plus his own abilities with the force.

Without reading many f the comments, Great Jedi Purge Vader defeats Mustafar Anakin; iirc, Lucas described Return of the Jedi Vader, in terms of ability in the force as 80% of Sidious. Mustafar Anakin's light saber dueling ability is a notch under Sidious; the BTS of the movies conveyed Anakin a 9 as opposed to Sidious's 10 and Obi-Wan's 8. | |

Vader wins here. Anakin in episode 3 was stated as 2x as strong as Sidious when he was focused and "In the Zone". As the Chosen One Dooku was reduced to nothing and was moving in solo motion, that puts Anakin at least at Yoda level. Anakin is able to go into this state when he beats Dooku, owned the Mortis twins and when he destroyed the Jedi Order and it is the combination of the light and dark sides that drive Vader to be near unbeatable. Now why did Vader lose to Obi-Wan if he was this powerful? Vader/Anakin need to be clear of mind in order to draw from both sides of the Force and use them in unison to create his Chosen one state. During Mustifar -Anakin had thought he had lost Padme who he was fighting for -Was bloodlusted with Obi-Wan -Was in conflict with himself period as he was shown crying. These three facts blocked Vader from tapping into the Chosen one state and left him to feed off the Dark Side only. Now using the Dark side without his clear state of mine as well as not having the Lightside to back his power up Vader was stated by Obi-Wan as getting stronger and stronger to the point Obi-wan was sure he was going to lose. Obi-Wan only won because Vader was out of his mind similar to how Zuko was able to handle Azula despite Iroh saying he needed Katara a waterbending prodigy master. Finally Sidous tells Yoda, Lord Vader will become more powerful then either of us which is true. Sidious had become such a powerful sith that the only Apprentice that could surpass him would have been Vader, but due to the Suit, Vader never surpassed Sidious and thus the Emperor was left as the most powerful sith. Now in this fight if Vader is clear of mind and knows Padme is alright then he wins after a long hard fight. Sidious has experience and a lot of power but Vader just has a lot more power and enough experience to deal with Sidious. If this is the New Darth Vader that Obi-Wan was fighting with just the Dark side then he loses a hard fight but he might be able to find victory. (Note: we never see this Vader) If it's bloodlusted Pre suit Vader then Sidious stomps. Darth Vader/Anakin(In the Zone/The Chosen One)>Darth Sidious>/=Yoda>Darth Vader(clear mind: never seen in film)>pre suit vader(end of fight)>Pre suit vade(start of fight)>ROTS Anakin=Obi-Wan |
